Pink plus or minus.

Pink Plus or Minus

In the walk of life there are certain defining moments where everything changes. Sometimes we don’t recognize those moments until we’ve long since passed them. But at other times, their significance is profound the moment they occur. Even if we don’t know exactly how they will unfold.

For any current or aspiring parent out there, one of those moments is the anticipation of the pink “plus” or “minus” sign on a pregnancy test. It is in tribute to that universally shared moment of elation and fear that we launch this blog. A blog that is dedicated to celebrating that one constant in life: change.

Inspired by the collective hovering over a white stick in bathrooms across the world, Pink Plus or Minus is an attempt to capture a more universal sense of change in process. And what better way to symbolize the pursuit of new, different, exciting, scary, fun, and nauseating than a cross-country road trip.

We are in our third year of Happonen Communications, and we are taking our global headquarters on the road. Our office is the Adventure Jeep, outfitted with all the modern trappings of a wired world. (pics to come)

This excursion is a combination family vacation and professional exercise…with a dash of social experiment. In addition to maintaining our current work with existing clients, we will be looking for new opportunities as well. I’m scheduling some stops in some of the coolest American cities to meet with business leaders and top agencies. While I certainly want to see if there’s something we can do to help them (see capabilities/resume), I also look forward to learning how they are managing business in these challenging times. Are the issues facing PR shops in Kansas City the same as those in Denver?  Do the same trends apply? (social media, declining print outlets, hyper-crisis communications). What are the biggest differences?

We leave Everett on Friday, June 19. Our journey ends in Philadelphia…date TBD.  Along the way, I’m looking forward to meeting some great people, sharing the journey, hearing from you and learning just how virtual our brave new 3.0 world really can be.

Come join us as we metaphorically hover over the thin plastic stick of life wondering how the lines will be drawn. It’s going to be a fun ride.

I don’t have my own camper yet but I’ve got a tent, so that’s as tart. (I prefer the typo.)
