Day Five: Consistency in Diversity

Before I explain how it happened, I feel justified in saying we were really tired.
After last night’s midnight safari, lack of oxygen from high altitudes, and then a full day of exploring the Grand Tetons and then driving through Wyoming, we weren’t paying close attention. We’re still not 100%…in fact, as I write this Johannes is driving down Hwy 30 on our way to Saratoga Hot Springs where we plan to camp (and bathe) tonight. It’s about 3pm local time. And I’m still kicking myself.
See, evil baby tried to escape today.
I think it’s been all this time we’ve spent setting up meetings with folks across this country. After meeting with Murray Steinman with Flying Horse in Bozeman, we are heading to Steamboat Springs where we hope to hook up with a former DDB colleague now at SmartWool. Then it’s on to Denver, Kansas City, San Antonio and beyond….
It was in the midst of planning the “beyond” that evil baby disappeared. It seems he wanted to find his own “next big thing” and following his heart he naturally was lead to Halliburton. Needless to say, it wasn’t hard to find him. But it does bring to mind the fact that throughout this process, as I continue to meet folks from all walks of life in a country where in a single day you can contemplate the very real possibilities of making a snowman, flyfishing, and burning in the hot desert sun, there is a baseline of consistency.
It’s the heartbeat in all of us that remains the same throughout our lives. Surroundings, situations, people and opportunities change constantly. But how we deal with those changes, where we turn to for our inspriation, who we REALLY are remains the same.
For evil baby…that is Halliburton*.
For me…it seems to be conquering challenges, rolling with the punches, and finding creative ways to make a point. Even if it means anthropormophising a psychotic doll.
* Just because evil baby is motivated by Halliburton it in no way implies that the company is also evil.

you totally crack me up. Lookin’ forward to the next installment.
our dear ones,
we travel in our thoughts with you and send prayers to GOD. It is a adventure and you see and experience so much beautiful. Also you have to deal with stress and tiredness which needs strong nerves.
Julius and Josefina will never forget your time together.
Julius you have much to tell ukki and mummi when we meet here in East Coast. It must be sometimes hard to sit in the car. You learn something about patience.
we love you and wish that you stay healthy and safe.
aulikki mummi and markku ukki
Thanks! The kids are digging finding weird places to take pictures of evil baby…yesterday he went “skiing”
