Day Seven: Weise Communications

Tracy and Jay Weise spent two days shopping for furniture for their agency’s new office. They came back with nothing but a red airplane. Which only further underscores the fact that I met us in Denver today.
Weise Communications is a husband/wife integrated marketing solutions agency where the wife, Tracy, leads PR and business development and the husband, Jay, manages the creative. They also happen to have two young children and love the outdoors. Spooky.
Over the past nine years, they’ve built a great shop doing award-winning work for local and national clients. Grabbing a bite at the neighborhood Irish pub, it was interesting to share business war stories and successes. Some of our shared commissary included:
- The client who seems to exist in the constant “courtship” phase.
- The tightrope act of balancing workflow with staffing.
- The transforming nature of the business with the rise of social media.
- The importance of always thinking ahead to plan for new growth and new opportunities.
They have plenty of furniture now and with a strong focus in healthcare, B2B and franchise communications, the Weise team and their staff of PR, marketing and creative pros has found recent success with social media and online lead generation. Like many in our industry, advertising and “pay for play” PR is waning. But they are poised for a great June and see the worst of the economic downturn behind them.
“There is a lot of opportunity now and it seems we’re turning a corner,” Tracy explained.
And Denver has a great mix of business. From government and healthcare to hi-tech and energy. Besides that, the Weise team also successfully sold us on the benefits of Colorado. Both transplants from other areas of the country, they have fallen in love with it and can’t fathom living anywhere else.
I can’t imagine why…between the hiking, skiing, riding…oh, and the 330 days of sun every year. Hmmmm….could Denver handle another husband/wife team???

yea… yea… I think there is room for another one. We can handle it. Bring it on!

We really enjoyed meeting you guys today. I hope we can find a way to work together in the future.
Reading the endless work and no play vacation, huh? Heidi it’s your time to put your hands on the fishing pole.
We’re heading to Texas tomorrow. I’m afraid fly fishing is on hold for a while. But I just might convince the family to go to Sea World in San Antonio.
