Day Eight: Busted

Consider this a $147 blog entry.
Today marks our second encounter with authorities. This time, it was with the friendly police of Monument, Colorado. Evidently, it’s against the law to go 40 in a 25 here. Go figure.
I have to admit, it was a generally amusing pullover….minus the fine. The jovial officer found our cross-country adventure very interesting. And the kids found it equally interesting to see who could pass gas the loudest in the backseat.
This all happened at the end of a full day. I spent about six hours early this morning working on some current and potential client projects. Afterwards, we took the family to Garden of the Gods…an amazing park that is cris-crossed with red dirt paths between beautiful rock formations.
We then stopped at a local water park to clean off the dust. That is until the lighting storm hit.
Perhaps it’s because we were eager to get our cold, wet bodies back to a warm shower and clean clothes (thank you again Dillow family for providing a hostel for the Happonens) that we didn’t notice the 25 mph sign. But in the grand scheme of things, why bother fighting something like a speeding ticket? Especially when it gives you an opportunity to get a picture of local law enforcement on your blog and the memory of how children who don’t have portable DVD players find entertainment.
